Eyelid & Brow

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) and Brow Lifts in Our Birmingham Offices

The Institute of Aesthetics offers brow lift and eyelid surgery ( blepharoplasty) at our Birmingham and Hereford offices. Both procedures can help you achieve a more youthful and refreshed expression.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty - DiagramWhen you first meet someone, you immediately notice their facial features, particularly their eyes. Unfortunately, eyes are often the first feature to show signs of aging as the eyebrows shift downwards, and the skin begins to sag. With blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, as performed in our Birmingham or Hereford offices, excess skin and fat around the eyes can be removed to give you a more youthful appearance. Individuals with baggy skin that hangs over their upper eyelids interfering with their field of vision, or those who have swelling under their eyes due to an inherited condition, may also benefit from blepharoplasty. See our cosmetic surgery FAQ page for answers to your blepharoplasty ( eyelid surgery) questions.

Blepharoplasty Procedure and Recovery

Blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both. A local or general anaesthetic may be used, depending on the surgery. For upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made in the fold of skin above the eye. For lower eyelid surgery, the incision is made just under the eyelashes and into the crow’s foot. Both eyelid procedures leave an almost invisible scar. Swelling and bruising are the main complications associated with blepharoplasty, but these are only temporary. Recovery time depends upon the extent of the eyelid surgery, but generally takes approximately two weeks.

Endobrow (Brow Lift)

Forehead Lift - DiagramEndobrow, or brow lift, is a procedure in which the muscles and skin are tightened and recontoured eliminating wrinkles and sagging skin from the forehead while further benefiting the appearance of the eye brows and upper eyelids. The brow lift procedure in our Birminham office, like a face lift, is often performed on individuals between 40 and 60 years of age to give them a more youthful appearance. However, younger people with low eye brows that give them a sad expression may benefit from a brow lift as well.

Brow Lift Procedure and Recovery

A local anaesthesia and/or a general anaesthetic is used for the brow lift, so you will only feel minimal, if any, discomfort. Once the forehead skin has been elevated, it is held in place with staples or stitches. The surrounding area is then cleaned and bandaged. A brow lift is normally completed within a couple hours with patients typically returning home the same day.
